A Very Special Christmas Chute Announcement

The 2024 holiday season was the best yet at the Route 66 Christmas Chute! We are grateful for everyone who has discovered the magic occurring in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. This year saw a record number of visitors to the Christmas Chute, including visitors from more than 40 states and over a dozen countries around the world!

In 2025, The City of Sapulpa is scheduled to begin a massive streetscape redesign in downtown. Years in the making, the new streetscape on Dewey Avenue will transform the pedestrian experience of downtown Sapulpa. With this undertaking, the Christmas Chute Committee has decided the best way forward is to take a pause in 2025.

Have no fear, we will be back in 2026 to celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of Route 66 with the best Christmas Chute yet!

What will the new Dewey Streetscape look like?

Here are renderings provided by the City of Sapulpa for the new Dewey Streetscape redesign.

What will 2026 at the Christmas Chute look like?

The Route 66 Christmas Chute will pause for 2025. The Christmas Chute will return in 2026 for the centennial anniversary of Route 66 with a newly redesigned City streetscape and an even more improved Christmas Chute.

A major City of Sapulpa construction project to renovate Dewey Avenue (Route 66) in downtown Sapulpa, will begin in 2025. With the commencement of the streetscape project, which has been in the works since 2020, organizers of the Chute will need to pause and regroup due to the design changes needed on the Christmas Chute.

Planning for the Christmas Chute begins every January, less than a month after the close of the chute and continues until the re-opening each Fall. With the streetscape project about to begin, a lot of the design decisions for the chute cannot be made until the Streetscape project is closer to completion. The Chute Committee is already meeting and discussing the many changes and improvements in the works to make 2026 the best year yet.

The Route 66 Christmas Chute return is slated to align with the Centennial Anniversary of the Mother Road, Route 66, in 2026. Chute organizers will have more time to fully prepare for what they hope will be the best iteration of the Christmas Chute to date. In 2024 the Christmas Chute saw thousands of visitors during the seven weeks it was open. Visitors came from across the US and from different countries around the world.

As we look forward to 2026, we hope to provide visitors with a more pedestrian-friendly venue, and a new and improved experience at what many have called, “The magical City of Sapulpa.”
